The Funnel is a mechanism MadLab Business Group uses to track the Crossfit Box "best practices". We sat down with owner Craig Patterson to describe and document an overview of all Crossfit best practices.
The concept was to have a natural, organic description of The Funnel. The illustrations and animation emphasized the infrmation, increasing viewer retention and understanding.
After animation, soundFX, music and all elements were put together the video is pretty intense!
The most intense project we have produced - 6 days of shooting, multiple locations, extras and tons of other complexity. A 12 day edit with effects, graphics and everything else we could throw at it. Finally color corrected, effects and out the door... in a short 12 months (due to the challenge of scheduling each department).

"Basically the idea was to throw a party to celebrate the idea that we're going to break ground on a new brewery"
And so they did... by dropping a truck from 60ft in the air, giving people free food, USB keys and free drinks. The event was completely cool and by 2013 a new brewery will be on site.
Video In Vancouver covered the event with two DSLR cameras and a RED Epic. We shot everything and turned the video around in 24 hours. The video was launched and acquired thousands of hits. Overall the media exposure was something like 600k people in Vancouver. A successful event by 6S Marketing!
The idea was to create an exiting, humorous and engaging online video for YouTube and UCW advertising use. We were highly influenced by the engaging RSAnimate style videos in which a hand draws all of the visuals as the voice over actor speaks.
We thoroughly researched UCW and the BComm program to develop the script and concept. This was worked back and forth with the Lisa Duong, the UCW Marketing Manager. We then went about shooting an animating the piece. Each scene was drawn separately and then animated together to the timing of the script. We kept the pace brisk and used lots of sound effects, custom music and quick graphics.
The client was extremely happy with the final product. The video was launched successfully!
Welcome to the new Video in Vancouver office! We've done a bunch of overhauling with the philosophy in mind:
"Set up a powerful system that will dramatically impact our client's bottom line"
Video In Vancouver new sign
From the beginning, this was a project to set up a system that dramatically helps our clients. We needed to collaborate, to work together in a quiet, healthy space. We needed to have the right equipment - powerful editing stations that made rendering and effects a breeze, high quality audio monitoring, broadcast specification monitors.
Mr. Ben McBurnie editing one of our projects.
We knew it was crucial to have really strong computers that made editing fast and easy.
Here is our in-house editor Ben McBurnie cutting the UBC Bookstore corporate video.
We have come to the end of our work year. Today is the last day.
This is a very emotional time for me as this year was the busiest, most energetic year to date.
We had some of the biggest successes we've ever had and some of the biggest failures we've ever had. We're learning from our mistakes, recovering from our challenges and striving forward!
We expect the next year to have a renewed direction, more viral videos, more sharable videos. More videos that aren't just advertisements but that people seek-out, want to watch and want to share.
This is the future of video. It's glaringly obvious now.
We shot on the same camera that the Hobbit was shot on all year. We produced 70 Videos this year. We have bumped up our standards all around.
Thank you so much to your clients! We are extremely indebted to you all.
Owner, Video In Vancouver
The biggest problem with doing viral video for a local Vancouver college or educational institution is the following:
- Target market and ideal viewers are limited, local audience is ideal
- Needs to be semi-professional
- Can't have any material that doesn't represent the business (semi-offensive, risque, stereotypical, offensive to certain demographics)
- Needs to be catchy, interesting and awesome but can't use innapproprirte humour or content that offends any demographic
- Needs to represent the busineesss.
But the hardest part is, the video needs to be sharable, interesting, engaging, awesome and able to get tons of local, relevant views.

Here is a short spot that we did for www.hairextensionsale.com (Hair Extension Sale) which is an Asian marketing group owning multiple companies including jewlery, fashion and clothing - all headed by Geoffrey Ren.
Video In Vancouver was contracted to produce four tutorial videos to be featured on the hairextensionsale.com homepage. HES is also extremely active with online advertising and the short 30 second spot will be a YouTube advertising trailer.
The client was extremely happy with the final product.

One of the toughest workouts devised, mixed with a great party and a tribute to Sargent Andrew Nuttall of 1st Battalion Canadian Light Infantry - killed by an improvised explosive device on December 23, 2009.
The workout honoured Sargent Nuttall and Video In Vancouver was there to cover the event with three cameras, a camera crane, RED Epic and two DSLR cams. We were demonstrating one of our high quality event videos.
Video In Vancouver was tasked to compose custom music to this piece. We have an extremely talented composer on our team named Jeff Cancade that took the project on. There are several rounds of revisions as the level and quality of the piece were very high.
Aukoala is a worldwide clothing and shoe manufacturer with multiple locations and huge online sales.

We were contracted by Brighton College to complete one main homepage video and five inner-page lead generation videos. The main video underwent a lot of work back and forth to really achieve something strong.
After completing two of the inner-page videos, our contract was extended with two additional videos and a broadcast piece! The client was extremely happy with the final product and we continue to work closely with Brighton.
Here's a little piece that was made by Monument Pictures and Video in Vancouver to show at the Calgary Competition "Big Rock Eddies". We pulled this production together in a couple days and we were able to win second place overall. There were over 100 entries from Western and Eastern Canada.
We were also able to pay the crew with the 5000 bucks!
Here's a piece that we were a part of. It was used as an in-house commercial for GoodFoot shoes in GasTown Vancouver. They are a skateboard, clothing, shoes and trend store that really leads with cool and cutting edge clothing.
The video required lots of rotoscoping by Miles Forster. The color correction and effects were crucial to the final product.
This piece was created for Aukoala as a marketing and advertising piece in Aukoala stores and online. The video closely shows the physical products in their absolute best states. Video In Vancouver was contracted to perform modifications, color correction, stabalization and title work (visual effects) on the piece.
A beautiful piece shot on a turn table at higher frame rates with tons of varied shots.
We've done a quick cut of some unique content to pitch to agencies. This stuff is a bit crazy, different than our corporate stuff a little edgy and cool.
1. A GoodFoot shoes commercial production with a skateboard and some white shoes that just kinda turns into nothing. A visually unique piece that took lots of rotoscoping (cutting out) to perform this editing trick.
2. Mr. Lube "the Competition" was a situational comedy piece created for Karacters and DDB to show unique comedy.
3. Colter Ripley personl reel 2006 - an Ali G inspired video showing clothes flying on.
4. NPA Broadcast spot with animation was created to energetically demonstrate the problems with our current mayor in Vancouver.
5. Big Rock Brewery - "Zombies" this piece was situational comedy meets realistic zombie on street action. It took second place in a nationwide competition for Big Rock Beer. This piece won 5k and was awarded second overall.
All of these spots were put together to show the diversity of our work.
